Organic. Chemical-free. Vegan. Cruelty-free.
Organic – this is the term that you will often hear about as it isn’t limited to just skin care products. Organic products mean that the item in question contains all natural ingredients. Everything that is put in the product comes from natural sources and nothing is ever made from the lab or has been synthesized to be as such. These naturally occurring ingredients work better for you, is healthier for the body, and is definitely safer for one’s health.
Chemical-free – is another term that is similar to organic but differs in the sense that these products are chemical-free. They don’t contain any synthetic chemicals and are a lot healthier.
For more information on different types of chemicals we encourage you to read our previous post - THE 'THINK DIRTY' COSMETIC CHEMICALS TO AVOID
Vegan – is different from what we usually think of when it comes to not eating meat. Vegan is about not using any kind of animal-derived ingredients. People who don’t eat meat are vegetarian but people who don’t eat meat, eggs, milk, and don’t use any items that have been derived from animals like leather or animal-based gels are vegan.
Vegan skin care products are not only effective and safe but they are actually better for the environment as they don’t rely on harming animals or raising animals to make the product.
Cruelty-free – possibly one of the biggest reasons why people choose the vegan lifestyle is because most animals that we raise for our benefit suffer greatly and are treated inhumanely. This is especially apparent in the laboratory where animal testing is considered normal. In fact, millions of animals suffer and die during testing of the deadly chemicals that companies eventually put in the products. This is why it is important to purchase skin care products that are labeled as cruelty-free so as to ensure that no animals were harmed or killed in the making of the item.
What you put on your skin goes beyond shade or coverage. It would help to know what’s really inside these products you love and patronize. By supporting organic and cruelty-free makeup, you are making a stand against practices being done by large companies that manufacture beauty products.
Learn to read labels and go beyond what is popular. Look for products that make you look good and are really good for you too! Beauty is beyond skin deep.
